Edge Medical's Multi-port Endoscopic Surgical Robot surpasses 500 surgeries

Updated: Aug 13, 2023

Beijing, China, July 13 2023 – Professor Xing Nianzeng's team from the Cancer Hospital Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences was invited to successfully perform an Edge Medical robot-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy at the People's Liberation Army General Hospital. The entire procedure was live-streamed at the 2023 annual meeting of the Chinese Urological Doctors Association (CUDA). This achievement marks a breakthrough of over 500 cases performed by the Edge Multi-port Endoscopic Surgical Robot MP1000, achieved in less than 800 days since its first clinical surgery on May 11th, 2021. It is the shortest time record for a domestically produced endoscopic surgical robot to reach 500 surgeries from the start.

Currently, Edge Medical has completed over 500 cases of robot-assisted clinical surgeries using the Multi-port Endoscopic Surgical Robot in 25 hospitals across 14 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in China. These surgeries cover various challenging and complex procedures in departments such as urology, gynecology, thoracic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery, including radical cystectomy for bladder cancer, total gastrectomy, transanal total mesorectal excision for rectal cancer, and comprehensive staging surgery for ovarian cancer. Over 96% of the surgeries performed were classified as level 4, with impressive accomplishments such as 17 consecutive surgeries in a single day and 4 consecutive surgeries in one operating room.

Edge Multi-port Endoscopic Surgical Robot MP1000 has been proven to be able to perform complex level 4 surgeries in clinical trials, indicating China already has world-class surgical robots in terms of technological capabilities and clinical performance. In December 2022, Edge Medical received registration approval from the NMPA for MP1000.
